Occupational Safety

The Occupational Safety and Health Act

Workplace safety and health laws sets up regulations to the working environment and includes all factors that affect the safety, health, and well-being of employees. This can include workplace hazards, unsafe working conditions or procedures, alcohol and drug abuse, and workplace violence. The workplace safety and health laws are designed to protect employees from personal injuries and illnesses from taking place in the workplace.

All employees and workers have a right to a safe workplace. A workplace that poses impending risk to employee’s life is allowed to refuse to work until the problem is treated. If an employee is injured at work, there are several actions he or she should take to make certain that other employees are not injured by the same hazard. The employee has to file for a worker’s compensation claim immediately to ensure that they can start to receive compensation for medical bills, lost wages, and injury. It is crucial to alert the employer toward the hazard or danger. If the employer does not fix the problem immediately, the employee can file a complaint with OSHA or the proper administrative agency.
